A year round destination
Torquay enjoys a climate akin to the Mediterranean.
Best times to visit
Best seasons are generally considered to be autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November) as these are typically the seasons to enjoy milder weather and avoid the tourist crowds.
Although there are distinct seasons, the weather in Melbourne and the Surf Coast can be quite changeable year round. As the locals say, its good to be prepared for "four seasons in one day."
Temperatures
Humidity for most of the year is not particularly high, though summers (December to February) are warm and sometimes hot. Summer days can range from 25 degrees Celsius and may sometimes peak to around 40 degrees Celsius.
Although winters (June to August) can be cold, Torquay does not experience snow and in the cooler months, you'll generally enjoy discounted airfares and more resort availability. Average minimum temperatures in the winter months of June through to August are 6-7 degrees Celcius.
Peak Season
Peak season is December through to February when schools are out of session for summer holidays.
Surfing
If surfing is a priority, March through to August is when the breaks are at their best in Torquay.
